Habitat for Humanity
Since 1994, St. Francis has been a Covenant Church with Habitat for Humanity. We have pledged to commit financial and human resources in the following ways:
- Pray for the ministry of Habitat for Humanity;
- Actively participate in the Day of Prayer and Action for Human Habitat, held each year on the third Sunday in September;
- Spread the word about Habitat for Humanity's ministry throughout the community;
- Lift up opportunities for volunteer service, both long and short term, either locally or through the international office in Americus, Georgia;
- Provide financial support by raising $1200 for God's people in need;
- Organize work parties to help build homes;
- When possible, select a member of our church to be actively involved on the Board of Directors or a committee of a local affiliated project; and
- Promote the international projects by inviting the Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers to speak in our area.
Volunteers from the parish are needed to work with Habitat. No tools or building skills are required. Habitat provided a great opportunity to help provide housing to families and individuals who otherwise could not afford to own a home. To volunteer, please call Muncie Habitat at 765-286-5739.
Partner Families required to complete 250 hours of "sweat equity" in the project, including 32 hours of homeowner education. They purchase their homes with a no-interest mortgage loan equaling the value of building materials. Families are selected based upon their need for housing, ability to repay the no-interest loan, and willingness to partner with Habitat in the construction of their home.
In Summer 2006, St. Francis participated in the Muncie Apostle Build, along with other area churches. In two weeks we helped to build two homes here in town.
